Forum Thread

I think I need an HTPC but I'm not sure.

We live in an area where we do not have good internet options. So we use a Tmobile hotspot and have limited data but free binge on. We are trying to stream Netflix etc to the tv. Our tv is an older Vizio it has hdmi. A Roku, chromecast, firestick , etc all use extra data and Tmobile doesn't count it as binge on.
I have a big tower in the living room and I really dislike it. I would like something that works easier and doesn't look like an office.
My budget is cheap.
Any suggestions as to what I should look for?
Thanks for you time. I have always gotten great help from this forum.

Detectable video typically streams at DVD quality (480p+) with Binge On unless video provider opts-out; on opt-out, high-speed data consumption will continue as if Binge On was disabled. Click below for opted-out providers (subject to change). On all T-Mobile plans, during congestion, the small fraction of customers using >50GB/mo. may notice reduced speeds until next bill cycle due to data prioritization. For best performance, leave any video streaming applications at their default automatic resolution setting. You may disable Binge On at any time, but will lose Binge On benefits. Sling not available in Puerto Rico. The trademarks shown are owned and registered by their respective owners.

Is my tablet eligible for free streaming through Binge On?
Yes, you can stream unlimited video from YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Sling, ESPN, Showtime, Starz and more without ever using your 4G LTE data and you'll get up to 3 times more video streaming from your data when streaming video on almost all other services with Binge On enabled. Binge On works great to stream video to your tablet or even when you use your tablet as a hotspot to watch a movie on your laptop.

Does Binge On video streaming data count towards the prioritization threshold?
Yes. Data usage that may not count against your plan's high-speed data bucket, like Binge On data, still counts towards your overall data usage. This doesn't affect your bill and you'll never see data overage charges. This is used to determine whether you fall into a small percentage of ultra-heavy network users, and ensure the best possible network experience for all users. This policy is explained on our Open Internet page.

Do I have to stream through one of the streaming partners apps or can I stream through a web browser like Google Chrome?
All of our included video streaming services will be optimized when using the app or streaming through browsers.

Does Binge On apply to video streamed while tethering from a smartphone, tablet, or mobile Internet device?
Yes. If you are streaming video from one of our Binge On providers while tethering from a smartphone, tablet, or mobile Internet device to a laptop, desktop, tablet, or handset you'll enjoy all the great benefits of Binge On.
I read this as select video services on roku, firestick, chromecast, apple tv, etc. should work with binge on.

Why do conservative politicians oppose conservation?
Have you ever stopped to think the long-term GOP immigration policy might be to make the United States of America a less desirable place to live than Mexico?

We tried it with a chromecast and it just used all the data, not binge on when streaming. I'm not sure if the others work better or not.

There are probably some t-mobile specific forums in addition to howardforums that you should probably try looking at. You may also want to contact t-mobile.

With any of these it would depend on exactly what you were watching.

As I understand it t-mobile tries to slow down these services and force them to use a 480p stream to get binge on pricing.
