We are in the market essentially for this exact GPS. I am only hesitating because I'm figuring something may come up cheaper on Black Friday. Am I nuts for passing this up or what do other people think? Probably only another $10- maybe $20 of savings by waiting?

This is not HD traffic version GPS model. HD traffic information coming faster and more detailed.

Another important thing: What power cable is included?
Based on this Garmin Nuvi 2589LMT Unboxing [youtube.com] video, box contains simple power cable without traffic receiver. So you may end up spending additional money to get traffic functionality out of this unit.

I looked at the refurbished 2599LMTHD from Frys for the same price last week, but they was selling it with a simple power cable (without a traffic receiver) too. So unit itself is ready to process and display traffic information but without proper cable no traffic info. Power cable with HD traffic receiver cost ~$70 itself.

Yes, this has both US and Canada maps. Got this exact GPS for my brother-in-law who lives in New Brunswick. He uses it all of the time.

I use to love in car dedicated GPS but haven't used one for about 6 or 7 years already..
why? Smart phones. yes, it eats data and what happens if you are in an area of no data coverage bla bla bla ...

But you can get a cheap $10 -$20 cell phone (plenty of $10 old smartphones deal pops up)
and install free offline gps software. and it double as a mp3/music player for car.

Though only downside is no traffic report.. I find myself using my regular phone with google map 95% of the time for places I go and never have reception issue and it is accurate. (it's 2017, LTE or EVDO is practically everywhere normal human go on a regular basis)

I also keep in my car an old HTC android smartphone from 2009 (the one that can take 3D pictures) that is loaded with Garmin and Tom Tom with North America database.

Also got a hiking GPS that runs on AA batteries when I'm out hiking. that thing has 20 hours battery life and is rugged.

Its hard to find a niche and use for a dedicated in car GPS like this anymore at least for over $40 IMHO.

$10 prepaid phone and phone, and "here" maps, only thing you would miss would be the "traffic" feature,
or just load it on the phone you already use...got data? you get traffic features as well.

And what happens if you pass up this device you'd like to have, and it doesn't go on sale for Black Friday? Confused

Edit: Four-star reviews at Jeff Bezos's company, and you can't beat the price on the price of this deal.

Good luck!
