At the $609 rate mentioned, it is a good deal. But if you prefer better service, Etihad or Emirates airlines may be better choices for you. I am sorry for the long post. Read below if you want details.

I have had only bad experiences with Qatar airways. They are much better in western cities like London, NY, Chicago. But beware if you are traveling to India

1. They treat you differently based on your race/ethnic background.

2. Service sucks on the second leg of the journey from Doha to India. They treat you like a freeloader or worse if you travel economy. This is evident during boarding, airline security checks, while herding you into shuttles etc. esp if you are not Qatari, British or American.

3. At Doha, They are rude and pretend like they don't know English when they want to ignore you.

4. Food - Average to below average in taste and choices. They constantly run out of popular items and don't make any effort to help you with cuisine preferences.

5. In my case, At Doha Airport, they let someone else pick my carry on bag by mistake at the security checkpoint. In spite of me pleading for them to check the camera footage or announce so that the other passenger could return the bag, they were totally indifferent (all ground crew, security, managers, gate staff etc). They did not believe me and said that I am making this up and that they wont look into the security footage.

They would not even let me file a complaint. I was asked to board my flight and to file a complaint once I reach my destination. I had placed my wallet, mobile phone, watch and house keys in the lost bag which resulted in a lot of hardship just to get a taxi, open my apartment and communicate with friends after landing home. They would not care to help me even when they knew what was in the bag.

I got the bag after about 10 days after reaching home thanks to connections that a friend had in QA. They found that the other passenger had returned my bag to the security personnel at the conveyor belt after realizing that he picked my bag by mistake. This happened within 10 minutes and while I was pleading with them in the gate right next to them. They could have easily announced or even notified staff at my gate while I was waiting for the next 1 hour trying to get a complain filed unsuccessfully.

I never got a formal response to my complaint and no one showed the least bit remorse on the hardships I endured.

Well, I was not allowed to take my carry on backpack into the cabin citing the aircraft was full even after telling the gate agent that I had a very expensive camera in the bag, I was not even allowed to remove my camera bag to take with me and I was not given the opportunity to talk to any higher officials only to find out that the seat next to me was empty after boarding!

I may be wrong. It's not Doha ,or qatar staff in particular.most of the middle East folks have/ had an Indian maid/ labor in their home,or business. (in middle East, Malaysia and Singapore).their attitude towards another Indian is same from their generalization.they just want dollars but not treat you with respect .I have been avoiding middle East - US for the same reason after the rude gate agents in qatar on my very first Qatar flight to US,..

Nice find OP! I would personally avoid QA because of a bad experience at Doha. If you don't mind the occasional rude ground staff, I'd say jump on it.

Thanks for info. Was it about anything specific, or is it just going thru normal security etc at Doha.
