Costco has Netgear AC3000 Router w/ MU-MIMO for $149 vs Staples has NETGEAR Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Wi-Fi Router for $129. Which one looks better? Any thoughts?

Costco one is X6S and Staples one is X4S. I go with Costco. This what a site says

If you want a killer router for storage, go for the X4. With regards speed, there is very little to pick between these two. The X6 does edge it in most circumstances."

Costco isn't X6S (R8900P), it's model R7900. Basically it lacks the DFS feature that the X4S has. I wouldn't buy any modem/routers from Costco, their models are one below the latest lineup. Bestbuy has the R8000 for $159.99 which IMO is the better option. Though that X4S is still a beast, can't go wrong with either.

That is a comparison with X4 not X4s

Anyway go to smallnetbuilder and check pro reviews.

X4s is the best router right now esp for the price.
The new Asus ROG may edge it for more than twice the money. But Asus's Fw is not ready yet to take full advantage of the hardware

Thanks for the clarification guys. I'm going for this router. I see Staples also has the Seagate 8TB Backup Plus Hub USB 3.0 Desktop Hard Drive for $149.99. Will this router be able to read or detect that big of a hardrive? I'm planning to setup a network drive to stream movies directly to my TV.

Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't replaced by router in years. Have a Netgear N600. Stream the occasional movie from my harddrive upstairs and subscribe to Netflix and Amazon. Have the occasional stutter when streaming. Will I see a difference in performance with the AC2600?

Compared to yours? Absolutely. This model has better hardware, stronger and longer signal range. Faster speeds too, 2600mb total speed compared only 300+300mb for the N600. That's assuming you already have a fast internet connection.

I have personally decided on this router for my BF purchase. Now I'm just looking for a good external HD to store all my movies for streaming. Similar to your setup.
