The problems seem to be more for the XL and not the smaller HTC built version. Thats the one I would get anyways. Add the $200 giftcard and now its not so overpriced.

I don't think the Pixel 2 (non XL) is overpriced at $650. I have one and it works great. The big features to me are: Google OS updates for 3 years, camera, and "pure" Android. It's also very fluid and fast.

The XL may be overpriced due to the mediocre screen though.
