Question About Exchanging Defective XBOX ONE X Console(gamestop)

1,559 43 November 12, 2017 at 11:24 AM
For those who have purchased an xbox one x from gamestop I have a question
I received my XBOX ONE X Project Scorpio from gamestop on November 8th..I powered it on yesterday, froze at startup, so its going back to gamestop..I want to exchange it for another one but I want to be totally 100 percent sure that the one they are replacing it with is NOT a refurb and NOT a re certified console..they told me it will be "New" but I know the lingo these reps use, they say new but they mean re certified..they wont send me a new one til I send this one back which makes me think they are going to send me a re certified one..Ive only had it for THREE days..this is my first time ordering a console from them so want to be sure it will be replaced with a brand new one..thank you

Here's how I would go about this:
1. Contact Gamestop (By e-mail, NOT by phone.) Tell them your x1x PROJECT SCORPIO edition is dead on arrival, and you want a NEW PROJECT SCORPIO edition shipped to you.
2. Wait for reply. If they confirm BY EMAIL that this will happen, do whatever they say (ship it back etc.)
3. If you receive anything BUT a New Project Scorpio edition console, contact gamestop by email AGAIN.
4. If they say tough luck or in no way help you to get a new project scorpio, you're going to have to return the console to your local gamestop. At this point, 2 options:
4A. Get your full money back on your credit card.
4B. If its past the return period at this point OR they are offering you store credit only OR a restocking fee: save the entire email thread you had with gamestop as a PDF, file a chargeback on your credit card, and send your credit card the email thread in pdf form. You'll get your money back.

Done. Good luck.

How do I contact gamestop via email? They dont post their email online..I called them, twice..one guy said it would take a month for me to get one from the warehouse while another person said they have "Plenty" in stock at the warehouse I just have to ship this one back first..fine, I have no problem shipping it back I will ship it tomorrow..I only had the darn thing for three days and yesterday was the first time I opened it..its defective, froze, turned itself off after 15 min of it being idle..I ordered it online and no other gamestop in my area or anyone in the city has any project scorpio's available so I have to send it back
How can I tell if they send me a refurb or re certified console? I went through the same BS with Apple that is why I dont want it to happen again with gamestop. Apple told me that they would give me a "New" iPad..that they have plenty set aside for people doing exchanges..yeah when they say "New" They mean "Re certified" found that out, told them they can keep it and returned the iPad to Target..so when gamestop says they have many set aside in their warehouse for exchanges makes me wonder if its gonna be re certified..Microsoft already told me they DO have re certified project scorpio's available

Record the phone conversation then. Need proof for the credit card company.

Found an email, but they may reply with telling you to contact their customer care phone number:

I sent them an email thank you so much! Hopefully the respond today. Never ordered from gamestop online before so I have no idea what their policy is. I assume they cannot send a re certified console and call it new that would be false advertising. If they say they are sending a new one well it better be new :-) didnt spend 550 bucks and all of my trade in credit to get a refurb/re certified console

Thanks..I had read the horror stories about people who received defective consoles so of course I would get a bad one LOL..I wouldnt even know how to tell if they send me a refurb console..I already wrote down the serial # of the one Im returning and the rubber feet of it fell off when I took it out of the box so if I get the same one back with the rubber feet falling off I will know they sent me back the same one

Since this is a brand new console and a special edition I doubt there is any refurbished stock available to send out. Is exchanging it in a store an option to you?

Vague questions receive vague answers . . . . . .
