Unless you really want the dock, the best thing is to either use the PS4 or just a standard USB charger. I prefer the USB charger because it's easier to charge it while I'm using the controller. I've had one of these before, and if it's similar, you have to have it in the dock to charge.

I've been using this for a couple weeks and I prefer this style dock charger over a standard cable. The dock is powered by the USB so it's the same amount of cables you would use to just charge 1 single controller. The indicator light makes it easy to tell when the controllers are ready but I normally just throw them in the dock when done playing so they are pretty much always ready. Previously paid $12 and it was worth it at that price for me.

I've tried several ps4 controller charges. My favorite was the nyko charger except it used all the USB ports on the ps4. I've been using the Japanese Sony charger which works well but nyko now makes this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H1WR...16493&sr=3.
Yes its more money and isn't on sale but you can buy extra blocks to charge more controllers. What makes the nyko chargers awesome and why I'll be buying the new version is the charging adapter. It removes the hassle of lining up the USB ports. It uses these little magnetic adapter so the controller just plops in place. That said if your on a tight budget this seems like a good deal. Considering I charge my controllers every day I'll be ordering the new nyko charger soon.

Sorry for the possible thread hijack but question for the gamers: is there anything you can do short of switching from the D pad to the joy stick to combat 'nintendo thumb?' Do they make a thumb protector of some sort? I haven't played video games since Madden 07 because of the callus I'd always get the day after. 40 minutes of gaming shouldn't lead to a callus on my right thumb so clearly I am doing something wrong.

I prefer the Chargers that connect via the bottom (opposite light bar) vs. the micro-USB just for the wear and tear. Micro USB is more fragile if the plugs aren't to spec. This isn't validated science it's just my 0.02 from experience with inexpensive electronics not being up to specs

TU and repped. Was just complaining about always having a dead controller. I purchased with Amazon credit alone. Thank you.

I"ve been shopping and noticed the genuine sony charger uses the ports you've mentioned. Based on my experience with my ps3 controlers I'm looking for an affordable alternative that uses that port. Thanks for bringing up that that there are two ways to charge the PS4 controllers....

Correct. PS4 is microUSB... PS3 is miniUSB.
