There are silicone handle covers you can buy specifically designed for cast iron pans. They work quite well.

Isn't this basically a repost of the last WM cast iron thread?

I checked before posting and did not find this size posted at this price. Is this the one you are referring to?

Won't the handle burn the heck out of your hand even with an oven mitt or potholder??

Seems like it'll be very hard to hold it flat. All that weight off-center.

need a heat resistant glove, or just don't hold it for minutes on end like any other cast iron cooking item.

I got it after i saw it on a previous frontpage deal last week. It is surprisingly thicker than I imagined (I've previously bought a cheap Chinese-make cast iron skillet that was maybe a quarter inch thick) and does a good job cooking the steak, my main reason for getting it.

though it may say pre-seasoned, the seasoning wasn't all that great. so I brought it home and washed / oiled / baked in oven, the standard initial seasoning procedure. It came out fine afterwards.

The protrusions(not sure what to call them) are kind of high and rather clumped with not much space in between, so seasoning thoroughly between those protrusions is kind of a hassle, but then again, 4 dollars for a sizable, usable cast iron griddle Smilie
