This seems like a solid deal I'm guessing. Can someone lend some expert knowledge. I'm trying to get a drone for my kid for Christmas and this seems like a great deal. Was planning on spending around $100

These are hard as sh** to fly for beginners, I returned it shortly after buying. Tends to flip over when you let off the throttle when it overcompensates. The downwards facing camera was garbage that you'll use once and never again, the front facing camera was mediocre and has about 150-200 foot range. Pass on this and go for one of those SYMA drones on amazon for $50.

This have been pretty much discontinued and are quite difficult to control. HOWEVER : these are some of the best out there to tinker with ! (Got 4).
The flight controller is running Linux, is Shell accessible, there are tons of code samples all over the internet, and if you open em up and change the battery connector to an XT60, you can use any standard battery pack (3S only!!).

The syma x5c-1 is a good cheap choice. $53 on amazon with extra blades and a couple extra batteries. A six pack of batts will run you about fifteen or twenty. This will give an hour of fun. It's pretty slow though.
The step up to that would be the bugs 2 (with gps) 3 (standard), and 6/8 (more of a 'wannabe race drone). This puts you in the $100-160 range. But would need more batts.

It's an endless pit btw. No way to fly em without spending money constantly. ie you are going to crash, get stuck in a tree, etc. So the syma is a good solid choice to begin with. Once you have the controller and batts... you can replace just the drone for $20. I fly mine in the house and it does flips too.

If you want cheap and a LOT of fun. Look at the furibee f36 on gearbest. I ordered five of them with 3.-6 day shipping from China the other day for $60. Lots of vids on youtube. And only a buck for blades. $2 for batteries.

Hope that helps.

edit: This one right here, Slickdeals from yesterday, is a Syma x5c. That's the non-upgrade version (x5c-1). You don't want it.

Thanks! I'm seeing the bugs 2 at 300? Were you saying 1-150 for that? If so, where?

That's not bad. And sorry on the bugs 2. It's a bit higher than the other two because of the return to home an such. There is a bugs 3 for $94 on lightning deals right now. Got about ten minutes if you want to snag it.
