Hello, thought someone could benefit from this too.

Microsoft released their Microsoft Store ad for Thanksgiving/Black Friday and they are cutting the price of their new Harmon Kardon Invoke (with Cortana) speaker to $99, originally $199.

The lateness of this entry into the automated speaker war and the comparisons of assistants aside, for anyone patiently waiting for a Cortana speaker this is a great deal. Especially given that reviews have been quite favorable to it for being a first gen product.

Hope this helps!

I was an Invoke beta tester. It's a fun device.

The audio quality surpasses the Echo, though you'll have to have a bit of an ear for it to notice (as in, it isn't day-and-night difference, and most people probably won't care).

I disagree with reviews that claim Cortana sounds more natural, but this may be because I'm very used to Alexa's voice.

Cortana definitely didn't understand me as well as Alexa does.

Huge annoyance: the glow ring on top functions just like the Echo's (showing volume and letting you know she's listening), but is tiny, and flush with the top surface. In tons of situations, I had no idea if Cortana had heard me or not.

I'm not sure if this was me getting used to Cortana's "pace" or not, but I also had the hardest time getting her to continue to listen while I was speaking. I think this was partially alleviated by making sure to say "Hey Cortana" instead of just "Cortana."

I did notice Cortana would do a few things with less setup than Alexa originally did...I didn't have to link a radio account to listen to music, etc.

Cortana won't connect with as many smart hubs and so far has shown to be a bit finnicky with them...but the Echo was too, at first.

Invoke will probably ramp up to the level Alexa is at a bit more quickly than Echo did, since it's late to the game and can take cues from other existing home hubs, but it definitely isn't there yet. Minimal skills, etc.

I could go on and on, but I'll sum it up by saying I'd only recommend the Invoke over the Echo if you're either determined to have a somewhat better sounding speaker or are a big Microsoft fanboy....and are okay with it taking some time to build up to what other platforms are capable of. This is at $99...at $200 I don't think I could recommend it at all.

Note that all my comments here are based on the Invoke since it reached the release version, and don't reflect any experiences with it I had prior to then.

How is cortana? I was considering the Sonos One for the Alexa voice control to change music and such. But for half the price it's hard to beat since Sonos doesn't go lower than 150$ if it's on sale. Sonos One is better sounding than Invoke per this review.

"and the same price as the new Sonos One, which sounds better and has more flexibility with multi-room setups."

Might not include physical stores. I was told by 2 different MS reps that physical stores will have their own BF deals and deals on their website are not price matched and do not reflect prices at their physical stores. Not sure how it was in the past.

Checked this out on the MS Store Saturday. It's top notch. Seemed to be not as invasive as Alexa but not as integrated as Google Home. Cortana is definitely underrated.

I use Alexa and Cortana. Cortana absolutely smokes Alexa. MS and Amazon are going to allow Cortana to be invoked from Alexa devices in the very near future, which in itself is telling. I'm getting this!

I have 2 Google Homes, a Echo Dot, and tried Cortana on XB1 (with Kinnect) and my W10 PCs and..... ehh, there's a reason I have 2 GHs. Now I just need to get the Apple Homepod when that comes out for Siri and it will be one big happy pile of shit.
