This Dolica tripod just set off my alerts on CCC (Matched the lowest price this past year). I forgot to remove it in the past when I previously purchased it for this price. Worked out well since Xmas is coming up and my brother was jealous i got it for that cheap.

Item Dimensions: 14 x 5 x 5 inches
Item Weight: 4 pounds

Personal Review (amateur photographer):
This was my first higher quality tripod (used amazonbasics one when i first got my DSLR). I've taken it on two international trips and it doesn't take up much space. Ideal for this exact purpose but it doesn't limit it to regular use. It's also undergone a lot of local trips since it was my only tripod for a while (recently purchased the Dolica GX600B200 so we'll see how it compares) but it honestly looks brand new except for a small scratch on the aluminum (accidental fall).
Removable ball head: I honestly don't have any reason to purchase a normal tilt and swivel motion type tripod. It's just a lot faster to use especially on unlevel ground.

For what it's worth, I ordered this a while back on a previous deal (>1 year) and have put in heavy use. It has been good to me thus far for family trips, camping, beach, portrait pics.

I had a student mess the plate locking mechanism up at one point through not knowing how to remove/insert the plate, but via workaround it still works/locks in. Other than that, I'm at about year 3.5 of using it personally as well as passing out to high school students. Nice for the price. Paid about the same back then, and considering a second one.

About to purchase my first tripod and curious what the difference is between this one and the highly rated 60-inches AmazonBasics one for about $24?

The amazon basics tripod 50" when compared this one, feels a lot cheaper. A lot of it depends on your uses but for someone like me who uses it on hikes and international travel and want to snap a quick pic of friends and family, the ball head on the dolica makes my experience night and day compared to a pan/tilt tripod head. The ball head gives you a greater flexibility for shots and allows for more configurations on shot height. Although it's slightly less precise compared to a pan/tilt, it's just a lot faster to use especially on unlevel ground.

In terms of ease of travel, the LA600 folds down to 16" whereas the AX folds down to 22.5" according to amazon. Also, the center column of the LA can be removed to get low angle shots whereas the AX allows you to "reverse the column" and place your camera on the inferior portion of the center column to get lower angle shots.

Thank you for your response. I saw the AmazonBasics 50" one but I am more curious about the 60" one by AmazonBasics bc it is rated really high, better than the 50" one. Wondering how the AmazonBasics 60" one compares to this Dolica one. Debating on which to buy.

While this is a good solid tripod, Every Dolica tripod I have owned with the flip out/flip in plastic clips that hold the legs extended have broken due to heavy use.

While Dolica will cover these broken plastic latches under warranty, your tripod is pretty much out of comission during this situation.

If you will using this on rare occasion, it might be fine, as the latches wont get much use.

But if you will be using it often, I would look towards a model with out the flip out plastic clips.

Whoops, I should have prefaced my reply with the fact that I've only tried the 50" and not the 60". But judging from an online comparison of those two amazon basics tripods, the offer similar features that still differs from the la600. The 60" one of course is going to be less travel friendly when folded up. Hopefully someone else with experience with it can chime in!
