So my son is PC gaming lately and really likes PUBG. There is no way I'm going to buy a $500 video card so I thought maybe a 1ms monitor would be the way to go. I'd appreciate any links or suggested keywords to help me find a good deal.

Thank you.

edited with info I should have placed originally
i5 750 @ 2.67 Ghz
16Gb RAM
Nvidia GTX650

I didn't use a spoiler tag because you just seam to take them for granite. But don't worry old chap, I'm hear to help you. For all intensive purposes, your probably relying on spell check a bit to much. But who knows, maybe this post is a blessing in the skies for other people who make similar mistakes, or maybe it's just a mute point and all for not.

I'm ill-prepared I admit it. I need to get on his computer tonight and do some type of specs dump so I have all the details. I had just seen tweets of people saying 1ms monitor was like a night and day change in gameplay for them so figured that would be nice for him. I'll google spec dump apps now to see how to get that information, or just right click My PC/manage/device manager tonight.

I went from a 5ms+ monitor to 1ms and it was great. From 1ms, 144hz and freesync/gsync are the next bump up. A 144hz will be a major improvement and the freesync versions are considerably cheaper. If your son has AMD then look for a freesync monitor, gsync (Nvidia-specific) may be a little too pricey.

I thought PUBG was only a VR game? Am I mistaken?

I guess I assumed the guy with the helmet on the cover art was supposed to be a VR headset. Excuse my ignorance but what's the draw? From screenshots I saw, the graphics look meh.

Actually not a bad assumption, I never thought of it like that. That's the level 3 helmet, the bee's knees of helmets, hard to find in world. I don't understand why it's the best helmet when it's clearly just a welder's mask, but absorbs more damage than a true military helmet. Game is first person and third person, no VR.

The draw is the game mode, 100 ppl land on the island, island area gets smaller and everyone has to kill one another to win. it's not without its flaws, but it's done better than similar games (h1z1, shattered skies: last man standing, the culling, island of nyne, etc). A lot of RNG, but the game get's your heart pumping at times. There's nothing more satisfying than spotting enemies before they spot you then wiping them.

Game certainly needs optimization, but new patch hit the test servers and looks very promising. Sitting at 200+ hours and I've received my money's worth. Will lose playtime soon with princess on the way, but getting my fill now.

Aaah ok. That answers the monitor question. So this game demands a high end rig to play it? (referring to the OP) And these 100 people are all real live players? Does that make for long wait times while the board is filled with 100 players? I'll check some gameplay video when I get home. Not that I can play it on my current rig, anyways...

100 real players. It's not very well optimized at this point. I could still run it decently with a fx-8320 oc'ed to 4.0+, 16gb ram, ssd, + 1050 ti. Even ppl running with 1080's + will complain about the poor optimization and fps drops. It's pretty startling that there releasing to XBOX in a month. It's very popular and you can load up twitch and it should be one of the top streamed games at any given time. I suggest watching some Shroud gameplay. That guy is nuts.

You know the way to a man's heart. I'm still waiting on Shattered Skies 2.0 in hopes that the population grows again.

I'm parting out my gaming PC to make room for a 2nd baby nursery...I'm coming to grips with the fact that my PC gaming days are over. I'm stuck with mobile gaming. Maybe in 5-6 years I can pickup a console with the idea being that it's for the kids.

lots of people migrate to a new game when they die. they don't wait for a winner and reset. so lobbies fill fast. at least that was the take i got from my pals that play. I'm not big on FPS anymore.

Only thing worth anything in my PC right now is the gtx 1070. I'm hoping I can Steam Link for some SP at the very least. I will miss my late night PUBG seshes.

This is pretty accurate. There's no free roam cam when you die. If you're in duo's or squad's you can spec your teammates, but that's it. Games are fast, fun, and challenging. Preferable to play with friends for the best experience.
