Is it dangerous to have a UPS near my feet?

474 54 November 15, 2017 at 06:20 PM
My UPS is situated under my desk near my feet, literally inches away. Is this an issue or should I move it much further away?

None that i know of. Ups units are designed for indoor use (enclosed space not well ventilated possibly with humans near 24 hours a day)vs something like a car battery. Unless your case is open and wiring is exposed I would mot worry except you kicking it over or stubbing your toe.

UPS's use lead-acid AGM type batteries. They don't spontaneously combust like a lithium battery can. I have them on equipment all over the house, including the one sitting 2 feet to the right of me, under the desk. Smilie

Not dangerous as far as I know. Keep your toes out of the sockets obviously.

I haven't heard any horror stories. Mines at my feet roughly.

I have a large UPS under my desk that I've used a footrest for the last two years. No lost toes yet. The batteries are sealed lead-acid, so unless you take a hatchet to it no worries there. You're more at risk from the power cords.

Not dangerous at all. My wife has one by her feet in a medical clinic and I used to do call center work where it sat right at my feet. As long as your feet don't get tangled in the cords, you're good.
