If you are buying to take advantage of the new Dolby Atmos/up-firing height speakers -- specifically, the receiver does not allow height sound output when using DTS Neural:X up-mixing. This is also the case with in-ceiling speakers that are placed at middle height. The receiver works fine for Dolby Atmos encoded material, but the vast majority of content (movies, TV, games) is not currently encoded this way. So, for me, the up-mixing is a significant factor, particularly since the rationale for buying a new AVR is take advantage of the new '3-D sound' technology. The Dolby Surround up-mixing on the Sony does output to the Dolby Atmos speakers, but in my experience DTS/Neural X and Dolby Surround up-mix very differently. (Dolby Surround seems to be better for atmospheric sound, whereas Neural X seems to do a better job replicating discreet overhead sounds, eg, airplane.) This is of course all very subjective (akin to, say, a 6.1 vs 5.1 setup), but given that other AVRs will output to up-firing speakers when up-mixing in Neural X, this, at least for me, was a material deficiency in buying a new AVR

Have had this receiver for over a month now

Pros
Great sound
Phantom Rear Surround option
Apple AirPlay (audio only)
Google Cast (audio only)
Spotify
Easy calibration
Great UI appearance
Includes customizable presets (Movie, Music, Night, Party)
Lots more settings than my entry-level Onkyo HTIB

Cons
No dedicated app
VERY SLOW UI (worst part)
Remote is not illuminated (and fairly large)
Customizable presets don't let you adjust Subwoofer output nor allow for Dynamic Range Compression (especially for Night Mode), does let you adjust overall bass though
Remote only has 1 preset button (unless I haven't figured out how to cycle the presets)
Not positive but it gets pretty hot

FYI I have this paired with a SVS PB-1000, SVS Prime Bookshelves, and SVS Prime Satellites (waiting to jump on a Prime Center).

Crutchfield will have the same deal on Sunday. I bought a 1070 last weekend, only to have them tell me it's discontinued and they didn't have any in stock. They told me about their deal that will go live Sunday and gave me the price early because of my troubles. Class act!

Amazon has this on sale for $398.00, marked down from anywhere between $500-$550. The receiver has pretty good reviews, supports 4K and Atmos.

Been watching the receiver deals for some time now, this looks like it ticks the most boxes. Any reason I shouldn't get this and I should wait for another?

not unless you want more HDMI ports that do 4k 4:4:2 chroma
I think this one has a total of 6 but only 5 do true 4k 60hz chroma HDR etc

I am fine with it
I will upgrade in a few years anyway
discover has 5 % cash back at amazon

so i only paid about 379

saved 275.00 not going to best buy , amazon etc

Thanks. Definitely don't need more inputs, currently only use my Nvidia SHIELD. Also helps that Amazon now partners with Hilton Honors. Just spent all my points from work travel on it.
