Just FYI, the performance of this model should comparable to the 2017 model with the base processor and the upgraded Radeon 560 GPU. That model costs 2500 plus tax from the Apple Store, so 600 dollars more.

The 2.9 GHz Skylake CPU on this has Geekbench scores of 4301 and 13981 single and multi core, respectively, while the 2.8 GHz Kaby Lake CPU on the base 2017 scores 4352 and 14423. Also the Radeon Pro 560 has peak 1.9 TFLOPS peak performance vs 1.86 TFLOPS for the Radeon Pro 460 in this model. The 560 and 460 have the same number of stream processors, and also almost the exact same memory bandwidth (1.25 percent difference).

So, for almost 25 percent off, you get the same performance as the current generation 15 inch MBP with the GPU upgrade. Sounds like a deal to me (and of course I bought one)!

There is more difference than just the slight performance improvement. You neglected to mention improved battery life and Kaby Lake 10 bit 4k HEVC and 4k VP9 encoding/decoding video support vs the 8bit HEVC on the 2016. Also the newer 2017 version has a faster SSD, nearly 50% faster.

$1999 from amazon last year. Bug price but amazon honored it.

To be noticed: apple is clearing late 2016 for almost one year and it has not been cleaned up yet.LMAO

This model has many issues. Buy 2017 model during bf instead.

I read a few people have this problem. Bring it in to apple store and they replace a new top case and battery. https://www.reddit.com/r/macbookp...ard_fixes/

Also seen some videos regarding the problem on youtube. They sent it in if it's still under warranty or have apple care.

Doesn't the kaby lake cpu have better support for h265? Might be worth noting for someone who wants to get into 4K video.

Why do you think 2017 models will be bf deals? I don't see any good 2017 models being marked down lately.

Yes, all High Sierra compatible laptops, like this one, have h.265. The compression rate is pretty good.

Going to hold out for the 2018 MacBook Pros and hope they update some things. DDR4 instead of DDR3, a keyboard that is reliable (shouldn't be an issue on a $2500+ computer), touch bar improvements, and really wish they'd bring the glowing Apple logo back. It may be asking a lot, but one can only hope... Smilie
