For those wondering like I was, this is the 1st gen of the 1000x. A newer version has come out, the 1000xM2, but Best Buy has those for retail: $349. The 1000xM2 is supposed to be the best wireless noise cancelling headphones available and the 1000x is supposed to be one of the best.

Still the lowest price of the season I think.

I have the 1000x and love most everything about them except for two deal breakers:
  • The microphone quality is crap. It picks up everything around you.
  • They broke around the hinge where the cup rotates, on both sides. It seems it's a very common issue.

I love the sound and the noise cancelling is the best but I would not recommend them.

I have a round head. Big head. How's the comfort when wearing it? Any ear sweat ??

Is it worth getting these or trying to wait until the newer model goes on sale?

These headphones are poorly designed and the hinge WILL break. But they sound great.

Do you think it'd be silly to reinforce the headphones around the breaking headband with small zip-ties? I bought them new and am thinking of doing that right out of the box. Also I bought a 3 year accidental damage warranty for 9 bucks, didn't see anything in the fine print that says it wouldn't cover headphones.

Can anyone speak to the degree of sound leakage from these?

according to this

the cracking issue appears to be limited to a certain set of serial numbers. i've been debating on whether to get the MDR-1000x or the MDR-100ABN
