Oh why Amcrest did you decide to make perfectly good round cross sectional cameras into these hexagonal fugly things? Why Amcrest?

I'm certain they function well, just really can't stand the bullet version of these things as the form factor makes it near impossible to mount these so that they look nice level / straight... that is without them looking like you were drunk when installing them.

Aside from looks, is this a good deal? Just looking for something to put above garage outside. I already have 2 of the Amcrest indoor cams and they work well for me.

128* FOV is excellent
2MP could be better but image quality is all that matters
other than that i don't know.

can you mount the dome style ones on a wall and tilt the camera high enough to get a good view?

Hi Mainline,

Hard to say, Amcrest claims there is a better image processing chip inside this unit, however not certain how to judge that claim compared to the deal I got from in previous years ( iirc $89 for a 3MP camera )

Hi Blah,

Note that 128* FOV is really only good for locations where subjects / suspects will be very close to the camera.

With 1080p and that FOV that would be about 8.5 feet for the ID distance. Anyone beyond that range and you will not have enough pixels on target even if you get a good angle facial image.

Most of the Dahua OEM dome models ( like the one here ) should have a very good range of angles you can set it to, so it will work in most situations when you mount it on the wall.
Note - dome cameras do have more reflection issues, including IR reflection - so they are best used indoors.
