Just got an ad from Sam's club, the Samsung Chromebook plus will be $100 off. The same as the Samsung.com price a couple days later, this deal may be easier to get.

I have one and really like it except for one thing. I don't know if this is a limitation of chromebooks or if it's a limitation of the processor in this specific chromebook, but there's no way to smoothly play local 1080p files.

The build quality is great (thin/light, sturdy, strong hinge, metal), the screen is great, having the stylus is a nice option, but I also wanted to be able to use this to watch movies on flights and I haven't been able to find a way to do that.

Can anyone link to the ad or screen shot? I'm going to try to get Best Buy to price match tomorrow.

I just bought the Galaxy tablet that was part of the Saturday deal but think it might have to be returned to take advantage of this. Thank you OP.

Yes. I believe it's available as a Chrome app AND an Android app. I think it was the Chrome app that wasn't able to see external (microsd) storage and the Android app wasn't able to play files smoothly. I'm guessing it didn't have access to hardware acceleration or the hardware just isn't fast enough, but not sure. If you have this chromebook and a working solution I'd love to hear it, it's the one thing I don't like about it.

I think I did, but will double check. I use that app and VLC on my android devices and am familiar with it. Note that some of the people in that thread reporting success are using the Samsung Chromebook PRO (Intel processor) which is different from the Chromebook Plus.

Awesome! Was just looking at Chromebooks yesterday. Had thought about the Acer (maybe ASUS) R11 but after holding that and this one at Best Buy I found the Samsung to feel a bit nicer, plus I do like the 3:2 screen vs the 16:9/10 that the R11 has. Might go have BB price match tomorrow and use this for when I start college in Jan.

I think devices are awesome. The ONLY gripe I have is that they don't run the Microsoft Office Android apps. Yes, you can still use the web apps but it's just not the same.

Wait..when did chromebooks creep up into the $300 range (much less $400 range that this laptop was originally at)? I thought these things were supposed to be in the 100s and 200s...

Went from being affordable type of laptops to "let's squeeze more money out of consumers" Smilie

Did you try out the keyboard? A lot of people seem to knock it.
