I don't know much about these guitars, but seems like a pretty sweet deal normally $839 for the Passive one.

Schecter is a major brand in the modern guitar market. I currently own two higher end models and they are fantastically made instruments (KMmk2 and Apocalypse C-7) in my opinion.

Schecter is first and foremost a company for metal guitarists. Most of their guitars are manufactured in South Korea. These guitars play fast.

For the non-musical father of a guitarist - what do "active" and "passive" mean?

Thanks

...active means the guitar take a battery to power the electronics (pickups) passive is like most electrics

Wish the Blackjack SLS C-1 Passive came in the blue burst. I only see the Floyd models in that color.

EDIT: Hmm, it looks like it does now. It wasn't showing before...

You could always replace with Blackouts and sell the passive SDs. It's not that hard, and with the solderless kits you don't even need an iron to do it.

EDIT: Wanted to add, I recently swapped a passive split (P bass-style) pickup in a beater Washburn 4 string I have with an EMG Geezer Butler signature split pickup. With the quick-connect, it took all of 30 minutes including restringing. I had to solder one thing: the bridge ground to the quick-connect ground. That's only because I got the pickup second hand and the usually-included solder-free splicer for that was missing.
