I've never considered ecodrive watches. How frequently do these ecodrive watches need servicing ?

5-10 years, with 10 years being a regular thing if taken care of well. The capacitors are around $30 dollars. Not too expensive of a service.

I think your data may be a little old. The recent Eco Drive watches have titanium lithium ion batteries that retain >80% capacity past 20 years.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eco...expectancy

Considering that they go ridiculously long between full charges anyway (2 hours of direct sunlight will let the watch operate in complete darkness for 6 months), they could well go 30 or 40 years of usable battery life (even 20% of capacity would be fine if the watch is getting regular light), although the watch will likely need to serviced before then for other reasons (e.g., lubrication) if you really want to keep it going. The solar cell part that charges the battery will also degrade with time; I know that roof solar panels are considered to have usable lifetimes in the 20-40 year range.

Let's be honest -- this is not an heirloom watch, and you'll want a new watch in 20 years.

Oh, I do have one cool Eco Drive story. My first Citizen Eco Drive was purchased in 2008, and it has an almost comically small face by today's style (really looks like a lady's watch). I set it in a drawer for 15 months, and it of course fully discharged in that time. When I found it again, it was at night and I was sitting under a single 60w bulb. I thought, let's see what happens and I set the watch in my lap. Within 10 minutes, it had started running with the second-hand hitting every other second (power savings mode). Within 20 minutes, it was fully operational again -- and this is in dim light I would not be comfortable reading a book in. That was impressive! And today's Citizen watches are running with better batteries. Anyway, I feel extremely confident that that 2008 watch has quite a bit of life in it.

I see this coupon on that page under the price:
15% extra savings coupon applied at checkout.

Does everyone get that? I really don't need this watch...but this is a crazy deal. like seriously crazy for a sapphire face watch with perpetual calendar.

This is my favorite watch ever. I wear it almost daily, it looks great, and as a frequent international traveler, I love how easy it is to adjust to a new time zone.

Good deal, love me some eco drives, but the cities on outside could be removed and it would be perfect. All other watches have useless tach or other nonsense that ruins it as everyday or evening watch.
