If you have a Microcenter nearby, it is worth rummaging through their collection of refurb/returned/openbox motherboards. The last time I did this (~6 months ago), there were many AM3+ boards for $20-200. A few years back, when I was running a 8320 black, my research showed that the 8350 doesn't OC well, as it is a power hog and generates a lot of heat... once you pay for a good board, PS, and cooler to overclock it, you mind as well buy an i5 and be done with it...

This is a pretty good deal if you are already running an AM3+ system with a slower CPU looking to squeeze out the last bit of life.

Also note that single core performance is pretty bad compared to Intel CPUs... I kid you not, but I built a few Intel G3258 ($50 at Microcenter) system that is noticeably snappier than my 8320 ($90 at Microcenter) system after an easy overclock. (Windows7 general usage). The only time I see the performance difference of the 8320 is during audio/video re-encoding with software that utilizes the extra cores. I don't play games.

One last warning: If you are thinking about upgrading an existing system - note that this is a 125W CPU. Not all MBs are rated for 125W. In fact, even those that are rated for this wattage isn't stable...especially if overclocked. Read up on old discussion threads on your board before buying!

Any Pentium II's on sale? I've been thinking about building a retro Win 98 PC for gaming. Looks like Newegg keeps CPU tech for a long, long time.
Why Windows 98? 95 was much better, or if you can find a copy, Windows 2000.

I remember a lot less blue screens on 98SE. Win95 is much faster though without all that web integration crap 98 brought. Early to mid 90's games often need real mode DOS which is just something Win2000 can't do.

wow that price, 3 years ago I paid 150. Is my pc really that old? I still see no reason to upgrade, this thing is more than mediocre enough for anything I do.

I've been using this processor for years, still going strong despite getting long in the tooth.

Killer deal at $60 if you are building a budget desktop.

Gigabyte apparently has a 2017 am3+ mobo for $60. This code didnt seem to work for me but you can already get it for 79.99 after rebate. You can save $5 buying cpu/mobo for $175 before $40 rebate.

Was half tempted, but even with that, with a 1050ti for a good budget gamer, you're already close to $300 and limited to using ddr3 ram.

Still rather try to get the i5/8g ddr4/1060 BF deal from walmart for $499, complete system with fresh Windows installed.

Wouldnt be opposed to a comparable ryzen 5 budget system but seems like most of the other pre-built deals with gpu card are more $800 range.

I said the same thing and looked at my newegg history back from 2014. But with playing games like pubg and arma I personally need more power.
