To head off the usual comments and fights about this drive, when this very regular deal pops up:

YES, these are pulls from server farms that likely have around 15,000-20,000 hours of use.
NO, they are NOT consumer returned refurbished drives.
NO, these are NOT "Deathstars". That was over 20 years ago, and two companies ago.
YES, they are enterprise level drives that are rated for years of constant use.
YES, there is a risk with buying a used drive.
YES, there is a risk with buying a NEW drive, especially if it's a consumer level drive.
YES, there is a serious (probably around 5-10%, based on the feedback these threads have gotten here) chance that you will receive a bad drive and will have to return it.
YES, you will want to check the SMART data and probably do a full disk test on it before using it. If you don't know what that means, check out the various threads here about these drives. CrystalDiskInfo is one popular FREE program for reading SMART into. Hard Disk Sentinel is one of the better known drive testing programs.
YES, if the SMART DATA or the tests show errors, you're likely better off returning it to be safe.
YES, that is the risk when you get such an outstanding deal on an outstanding drive.

Used hard drives? Lol no thanks
Sure, not recommended for folks who are banking their luck on single drive but savings might be worth for folks who are RAIDing bunch of drives.

I never felt the need to check smart or do a full format, as I was only backing up my data, and figured that the drive would only be used for up to 50 hours after 10 years.
But then my win 10 machine didn't like hot swapping drives, and wouldn't dismount the old one before hooking up a new one.
This caused errors, as windows thought the new one was the old, and wanted my to restart to be able to access the drive, after it did an error correction.
Then I would end up with 1/3 of my drive files missing, forcing me to do a raw recovery.
In all cases, I would get my files back, but a 3-4 TB drive can take 24 hours.
That said, I now make sure that the drive is no longer showing up in device manager, otherwise I have to rescan to remove it.
Anyways, it's probably a good idea to make sure smart check finds little or no errors, and predicts a good future on any refurbed drives
