You'll get less thumbs down if you put "B&M" in title. It stands for brick and mortar only.

It must be cheaper to manufacture these U-line CPU's, cause the resolution, non-touchscreen, and hard drive instead of SSD, make this a meh unit. Not a bad beginner's price point though. And I suppose the U CPU runs cooler, which is usually needed for the hotter running hard drives, over SSD's.

Not really 'cheaper'. Intel has been more competitive in their pricing and i am sure this has to do with amd ryzen. You can see this trend from 6th gen to 7th gen to 8th gen. As in a i3-6100 was 120 on sale and the i3-7100 seemed to be 110 normal price than 100 on sale. I would not be surprised that the i3-8100 is basically normal price at 100 a bit in the future.

this leads to old stock costing mfgs more because they bought it at a premium to what they bought the new parts for. they don't want to sell the new stock until they get rid of the old stock but if one competitor offers a cheaper newer version they all have to as its competition. in short its not like there is a defect in these newer better cpus, its competition and the build cost on the newer units is cheaper than the ones with older parts. the consumer wins plain and simple Smilie.

Same happens with the laptop line and that leads to old processors still costing more than newer more powerful ones.

The hard drive causing 'heat' is irrelevant. There are a ton of gaming laptop deals running 6th and 7th gen HQ (45 tdp mobile processors) that are great but come with a 1tb hdd. The 8th gen u series is almost as good as those and uses less power. The u series costs less as well.

The laptop space is a huge mess right now with three gens of intel processors around and at least 2 gens of amd in the mox. Sometimes a 5th gen intel will pop up and its not a refurb. Its a mess. this is where a uninformed consumer loses because its so confusing. i bet the mfgs want it this way because all of them have to move old stock/parts still while they don't want to lose money on their build. they. can only cut so much and there is also almost no way they can get a 6th or 7th gen build to be seemingly worth the 40% performance loss without losing money.

Maybe less turndowns if you remove
"B&M but can purchase online"
And replace it with
"STORE PICKUP ONLY!"
