I don't know about 1440p, but 4K is exactly 4x the pixels of 1080p (in 16:9), so if you run a 4K panel at 1080p, it will function with no image distortion.

No, the Costco model is U28E590D, that one went for $250 during BF last year. I just jump on 3 for this deal. $329 seems to be the cheapest the U28H750 is going this year. This model seems to have better colors that the E590D.

Question about 4k gaming. Can you run a 4K monitor at lower resolution, say something closer to 1440 and it still look good or does that not work well?

Newer games and video cards can display 4k but render at 1440p or 1080, which is preferable to changing the display resolution.
