Great camera but it's got to be getting a bit long in tooth by now.

There are pros that still run with D3/D4s and variants. A camera is a tool to do a job of taking pictures. From a cellphone camera to a top-end camera, they do basically the same thing. Better cameras provide more options but it should be noted that the user needs to learn how to use them to be more effective with then.

It is old, yes, but it's a very nice camera to start learning. If you find out you don't like it, you can sell it and get most of the value and lose little but time and a small percentage of the price. Buying new cameras comes with the risk of price drops so you will lose more. For some it's a really good Point & Shoot , my friend uses it as such.

I've shot it on release and love this camera. The main issue is that there is no silent shutter. Once the a6300 had that, I switched due to that. Didn't switch to a6500 so gains are small.

Yes. I think it's the same sensor as the Nikon D7100. Faster autofocus than D3400 and T6. Competent software for WiFi transfer to phone/tablet and lots of hand holding for beginners.

But battery life sucks and lenses are expensive. Real world you're looking at 200-300 shots on the A6000 since the sensor is always active when the camera is on. Some A6000 will overheat when shooting video. Overall, not a bad deal. Yes the camera has been superseded by the A6300/A6500. But neither of those cameras are $500 with a lens.
