Just an FYI - this version will be replaced with a new one in January (https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-o...er-windows)

Will it work with win 7? I bought the adaptor for my elite but reverted to win 7 cause win 10 is in the garbage. Technically it errored on my main pc and I only upgraded a new laptop because I couldn't upgrade on my main.

Typical windows lies and software failure

It will work with Win 7 HOWEVER headphone audio/mic plugged into the controller will not
That requires Win 10

There is NO functional difference between this one and the new one coming out except size

Weird question, do you need this adapter to play on pc with an Xbox one s controller w/ Bluetooth? Or is this a prerequisite to using any controller on pc? I was under the assumption that Xbox one s controllers were simply able to function as pc controllers out of the box.

They do work over Bluetooth but ymmv on lag. I haven't experienced any but I don't play shooters or much multiplayer so I've never noticed it.

It was my understanding that xbox controllers are run via bluetooth. This is only necessary if you don't have bluetooth on your pc

I bought one of these on ebay for $13. Just sayin.
I assume it's the same seller "rushhourwholesaler" eBay / "RushhourGamers" Rakuten

Someone else can chime in on real world differences in use, but you can use the bluetooth XB1 controller on the PC without adapter if the PC has Bluetooth (not sure what the minimum version is) and Windows 10 (version 1607 or better required.) I tried it with an old Bluetooth 2.0 USB adapter and it didn't seem to work, unless I was doing something wrong. If the bluetooth is built into your network card it's probably going to have slightly better performance than USB.

I remember last year they announced that they'd be licensing the XBOX wireless spec for motherboard / PC manufacturers. Anyone know if anything came of that?

The new ones that came out with the X1S are BT. The elite controller and the original X1 controllers are not BT.

I believe this is needed if you want the 1st gen xbox one controller (black) to work with windows. Any controller from the 2nd generation 'S' (white) has bluetooth built in and can connect to the bluetooth off a windows computer.
Also I believe the adapter for the guitar hero is the same type as this.
