The cheap head unit is often used to draw in customers who then must purchase installation and metra wiring harnesses, adapters and mounting kits.

If you are buying one of these as a gift someone take note of what their dash looks like. If they already have an aftermarket radio in there these are some great deals to get rid of that old cassette deck.

If they have a newer vehicle beware because many newer vehicles have the radio and other controls on the same plastic panel in the dash. Honda comes to mind as an example. A newer Accord requires a $40+ kit to swap in place of the factory dash panel in order to mount an aftermarket radio like this one. Then you get to spend another $40 for the steering wheel control integration kit if you want to keep using the steering wheel controls. If there is a premium factory audio in the vehicle with amplifiers well there's another adpater to buy for that too. In some vehicles you'll spend more on the adapters than you would on a head unit in this deal, so be careful and research before pulling the trigger. Happy shopping!

Thanks, picked up the JVC. Needed a newer cheap head unit with Bluetooth for my old silverado.

Thinking about getting the Sony as it still has a CD player too

Do they all still do that annoying beeping when you cut off the engine?

MVH-290BT - Nice basic deck w/ BT capabilities. Have one in a cheap commuter car and works great. Paid around $35 6 moths ago IIRC.

If I have a 10 year old pioneer deck I'm looking to replace, will the wiring connectors most likely be the same or do they change from year to year?

Have this in my commuter car. Its good, not great. Fine if you just want radio, Bluetooth music, and hands free calling.

The plug is probably the same but if not its not very hard to splice the wires together. Plenty of guides out there on the internet.

I have the JVC 330 in my car, great unit that plays 24/96 FLAC files. Put the 340 on my Christmas list for my Silverado.
