In the bottom of the SVS email I got about this deal:

Thanks... great info that explains it well... although it doesn't talk about what is considered a "small" room. Maybe I would get better lower end rumble with a ported sub than my current sealed sub (SB2000)... decisions, decisions...... have to make sure the ported sub will fit though.

I thought they stopped making these NSD models years ago. I've seen so many advertised closeouts of them. I have the SB-2000 piano black and it's incredibly good and looks beautiful. I bought from their outlet section and it looked brand new to me.

They've been discontinued for several years now- Likely since these are in the outlet they're trade-ins or refurbed from warranty subs they replaced.

That said- the PB12 for $499 is a solid deal... not at good as the Klipsch R-115 for $400-something from Frys but that's few and far between, but certainly better than anything else within a couple hundred bucks of its price.

The PB12 IIRC is about 2-3db quieter than the PB2000, which runs $800... and it's definitely a step up from the PB1000 which is the "current" ported sub SVS gets $499 for new.

Ported vs sealed? Depends on room, sub and goals. Buy both and return is an option. I had 4 ported 12" a small 10x22' rectangular low ceiling sealed room, had a pb13 and now 2 sealed 18s. I found that after equalizing for a fairly flat response ported had the same output above their tuning frequency. Had bigger peaks to smooth out. Below, the sealed had more output and went much lower. 4 subs had the smoothest response but the same output as 2. 2 subs was a big improvement over 1.

I have SB12-NSD (bought it last year from Amazon Black Friday for same price as this year). I was so happy with it that I bought another one on the same day I listened to the first one. These are amazing for the price.

I set an alert for these guys a few weeks ago. Looking to pick something up for my home theatre build. However I've been looking between the PB-2000 and one of the HSU subs. Apparently the hsu goes lower into the "feel it" range. So I'm not sure. Looks like those thought aren't on much sale at all. I've got an alert for hsu as well and hoping they come out with something here in the next days.
Hsu often discounts a few models $30-40 on holidays but that is the most it will ever discount. VTF3 is $40 off right now which is the lowest ever.

I have a PB12 and just bought two VTF3 since I couldn't buy a second PB12 new to match. Would have gotten this instead if it was available. The VTF3 goes a bit lower as the PB2000 would but is not a huge noticeable difference. I think it's worth the savings. Also the SB12 is fine for small to medium sized rooms for more savings. I have one in the corner of a medium size great room and it still outputs enough.

What's main difference between SB12 and SB2000? They seem to be same 12 inch subwoofer size. What am I missing?

What is SB2000 then? Is that way different than SB12?

SVS makes great subs with great service. If you want the most bang for your buck consider the DIY route. Parts Express sells a 18" sealed flatpack, the UM18 for about $450 when you add accesories. Power it with a used pro amplifier for another $200. Make a pair for about $1300 and 4 hours labor. Check out data-bass.com

sb2000 is newer model therefore more costly. SB12 is discontinued, and it keeps popping up on holiday sales because there is still a large stock left. However, both sound great (I could not tell a difference. so I bought the cheaper one (SB12).

Wow this was perfect timing. I was about to order the HSU VTF-2 for the same price as the PB12, when the PB12 is comparable to the VTF-3 line for ~$200 more. Repped!

I also have a SB2000 and simply don't have the room for a ported subwoofer. While the SB2000 is more than enough for chest thumping bass(at least in my setup), I have been considering another SB2000 for reasons I am unsure of.

LOL... sounds like I'm in the same boat as you are. I don't think I have the room for a ported sub either, but I do have dual SB2000's. I am not sure why I'm considered a ported sub either... I guess I think that it will be better with more lower frequency shaking bass, but the dual SB2000's seem to do a pretty good job.

The PB2000 is so much bigger than the SB2000. I was surprised.

I'm really tempted to pick up the PB12 for $500 to compare to my R-115SW that was $400, just to see what the SVS hype is all about

How does the SB12 compare with R-112SW? Are they both on par?
