Don't worry my fellow SDers Frys pulled another one on all of us, looks like this is not new to Frys. Remember this from 2010?

https://slickdeals.net/e/2429441-got-screwed-by-fry-s-cancellations-this-bf-do-something-about-it

They better do something like this:
https://slickdeals.net/e/2445642-fry-s-honors-back-orders

In case you're wondering - 980 vs 960:

980 - 50% longer battery run time than 960 (120 minutes vs 75 minutes)
980 - 2x the suction of the 960 (which already has 5x the suction of the 6xx series)
980 - better carpet cleaning (we never had issues with the 960 on carpet)

Also, the 980 *might* have a better navigation camera. The 960 we have gets lost in really dark rooms at night because the camera kind of blows. I've heard the 980 is better, but that's not confirmed.

The 980 and 960 use the same VSLAM camera system that requires some light to work, it's not LIDAR.

The 960 finishes in 50 minutes what took 870 couple hours to do incompletely (the 870 missed entire areas all the time) -- therefore, the 75 minutes battery of 960 is a non issue for most people since it's so much more efficient than the stupid earlier models. The 960 and 870 use the exact same vacuum mechanism and it's great. The 980 is a waste of money for most people don't buy into the marketing BS unless you're sure you need 45 minutes more battery per session.

This is a great deal on the 960 as long as you know that because it uses camera navigation with poor/no nightvision, it's essentially retarded in a very dark room if it's programmed to run overnight. Other than that, great robot vacuum at a great price.

We've never had a 980 because it's so expensive. I've heard the camera on it is better and then someone else I know said it's the same camera, so there's no definitive answer IMO. For the 960 we ended up putting a dim night light in the great room so it could navigate and clean overnight and find its way back to the charger. Without it, it would get lost and die somewhere in one of the rooms pretty regularly.

I will say that I'm going to ditch one of our 870s we use for the back of the house and get another 960, so that's a pretty good recommendation. Smilie

The 960 and 980 will both work. They map the layout and if they run out of battery before they are finished they will charge and resume automatically. The others will auto charge, but not resume.

mom 2nd Fl is still carpet, this is the only reason I got the 980. had similar price with 2year warranty from lowes a year ago. but looks like there are some problems, such as you mentioned, it does get lost one time before.

yes, with auto-resume work, meaning it will return to whatever it left. back from there when recharge is done

Not really practical. Split it up into front and back of the house and have 2 Roomba 960's and you're good to go. We currently have a 960 in front and two 870s we rotate for the back of the house (and a Scooba for the kitchen). That works really well.

Sounds nice on a commercial or in an ad, but from my experience in the real world, a 960/980 will likely not make it back and end up dead somewhere in the house sometime during scheduled cleaning if you try to have it do all of a 3000 sq ft house.
