I figured this would drop to around this price in the fall. I am debating if it is worth the hassle of upgrading from my 4790k. There isn't really that much of an increase in performance. I should be able to get decent money for the 4790k, ddr3, and mobo on Ebay. Decisions, decisions.

I thought about a i5-8600k but you can get an okay mobo for $30-40 for 7th cpu. which gives us huge save on the mobo. You have to pay $100ish for 8th gen mobos.

All depends what your use is 8600k right now is costing $125+ more than a 7700k so price vs performance 7700k is still better.

Hardly anyone is waiting for an 8700k. No ipc gains, runs hotter, higher watts, requires an all new motherboard (Which will only work with the 8th gen series) , its only advantage is 6 cores, but that's a response to AMD's resurgence only. In a lot of benchmarks it performs worse then the 7700k in single threads. Go Intel vs AMD fanboy all you want, but at the end of the day the only chips worth anything in the 8th gen lineup are the 8700k and the u series which are now quad core and make ultrabooks perform really well now. Otherwise you are buying a new motherboard for exactly the same shit. And VERY few people are rushing to buy a new motherboard for 6 cores when you have Ryzen which still performs better for productivity.

If anyone's waiting for anything, they are waiting for Intel's 4 year long now wait for 10nm cpus

A 7700k still performs better in most games, and you'd need a new motherboard anyway, so for productivity why not get a 1800x?

I think the deal is dead now, but today on Amazon the 8600K was being sold for $258. I'm sure we'll see a similar price in the next week.

Seems weird to pair a $30-$40 mobo with a 7700k, most probably wouldn't be able to take advantage of the 'k' aspect of the cpu. A decent 200 series mobo is around $100 too. Look out for sub $100 300 series mobos this week!

Well, I am not planning to an overclock and stock 7700K works fine as is.
People saying it's good to get a 7700 if I don't plan to do an OC but I got it for $245ish which is less than the price of 7700.

I'd like to add that Staples just 105% Price Matched this for me.

Took several attempts to get the right associate but they adjusted the price, $252 w. free shipping.

Works for me!
