I have this vacuum and confirm that it's very good. Do note that this is version 1 and not version 2, which has app-directed spot cleaning and rudimentary mopping capabilities.

The difference between the two other than the promotional pricing?

anyone have issues controlling this robot vac remotely (not on same wifi) with the android or ios app?

It says the device is offline, but when I open it, I can see the status of it, the battery charging, or it moving however I cannot control it (start, stop) unless I am on the same wifi network.

Im currently using it on the US (Singapore) server. Did they fix all the issues with the US (US) server?

I think that one is a couple hundred more.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger.

Just use the Mainland server. I had many issues with the US / Singapore servers, but the Mainland server seems to work reliably though it has a bit of latency.

I was seriously considering this over Roomba 960 until I realized they have zero customer service presence in United States. If this thing breaks, you are on your own.

If Xiaomi is still your thing, I highly suggest buying from Newegg when they have it on sale and get the squaretrade warranty with it. However, with additional expenses, your saving might not be as extravagant

Version 1 does have spot cleaning if you update your firmware. I just used it on mine last night. I too can confirm this vacuum is awesome. I purchased mine in September 2016 and it has cleaned my house 126 times according to the app with only a handful of times where it has gotten stuck. My old Neato and Roomba were getting stuck pretty often compared to the Xiaomi. Also it cleans my whole house and never even drops below 50% battery, which neither of my old machines could do on a single charge.

Well dang, that's awesome. We're talking about the ability to draw a bounding box on a room and have it spot clean? My firmware is 3.3.9_003077 which it claims is the latest. How'd you get something newer?

Not spot cleaning in that sense (wow, that would be awesome!). I am on the same firmware version. The spot clean it has is more akin to the spot clean that I've seen on other robotic vacuums in the past where you place it in the middle of a mess and it starts from there and cleans outward for a few minutes and then stops. You can get to it in MI app by going to the vacuum, press "..." in the upper corner, select "remote controls" and then press the "spot" button down on the bottom.

Oh yeah, gotcha. The spot cleaning I'm talking about is something that was added to v2 of the vacuum. Was hoping it'd been back-ported to v1. Smilie
