They are pushing this Essential phone way too hard. Makes me suspect there is something wrong with it.

The phone is fantastic. I came from a Moto X Pure. Smaller screen size. But awesome battery, awesome updates, awesome display.

Yes, I did get it for 5 a month on the free unlimited plan. Haven't paid it off yet, but from what I understand I'll be eligible for another upgrade when I do.

I'm confused, how do you pay off a leased phone, don't you have to return it at the end of the lease?

They give you the option to purchase and own the device if you pay the Purchase Option Price.

For the Essential phone, this Purchase Option Price is set at just $30.

When this deal was first discovered people thought that was a mistake, and rushed to buy it. Usually it's something like $300, so that the total price (lease + POP) is close to the $600+ retail price.

But for some reason on the Essential phone it's set to a ridiculously low $30

Thanks for the clarification! That's ridiculous, they must have forgotten a zero on the total lease payoff which still would have been lower than the $499 current price.

Is it still $30 to pay it off? Or was that a limited time?

The $30 Purchase Option Price (POP) is NOT a mistake. It is 6x the monthly lease payment amount which is $5. There is an initial payment of $25.
Total $25+ ($5 x 18 = $90) + $30 + tax = 145 + tax. If you cancel service in first few days, then service charges will be waived worst case prorated. Activation fees is waived for online orders. $10 shipping, easily waived by CSR. Great deal in my opinion.

I got 4 phones, paid off, unlocked and the phone is working like a charm on TMobile.

It is still available to order on sprint website. Wait until Nov 23rd to even get the 360 camera with the phone - needs 6 weeks of service.

So, I can walk into a store, hopefully get an older box that is not locked to Sprint, and set up service on the lease. Then, pay it off immediately and be done with Sprint and go on my merry way?

Did the phone automatically unlock after paying it off, or did you then need to contact Sprint? How long after payment did it take to unlock?

Phone will be unlockable by yourself once you pay out the lease.

Is this for a new line? My line is not yet eligible for upgrade. Can I still buy the phone at this discounted price? Also, are you suggesting I wait until the 23rd in orderr to get the 360 camera as the bonus?

Thanks for any info, anyone.
