That Athena Power backplane would be a good deal at $8 but at $2 it's a steal.

Thanks!

What is the difference between the 2 Syba HDD encolsures? Different chipset and max HDD capability? Is that all?
I have one of these for FAR from a really old deal. But it is underpowered since its hooked up to a rpi3. Looking out for a enclosure deal with additional power supply.

It's probably easier to get a cheap powered USB hub.

Not quite free but seems like an ok deal. Not sure that many people can use something like this.

Probably why it's cheap. Not sure that many people have 2.5" drives as their hotswaps.

IT would have been nice if the OP had given a description of what this is, since I'm pretty sure most of us haven't memorized the Athena Power catalog, and "backplane module" is pretty vague.

This is a drive adapter that allows you to mount two 2.5" drives in a 3.5" drive bay. It only requires one power connector, but still uses two data connectors (there is no logic inside the adapter). Presumably in an Athena Power array it's a simple swap (take out the 3.5" drive, slid in the adapter), but in any other array that uses slide-in drives, it's likely that only one of the two slots in this device will be active.

Here's the product page [athenapower.com] with more info.

ETA: this might be an interesting way to mount an additional drive (SSD plus a spindle) in a unibody iMac.

One is shoprunner eligible and one is not. They use different chipsets as well.

I'm thinking the biggest difference is JMS chipset (SY-ENC25051) supports up to 4TB drives while the Asm1153 chipset (SY-ENC25049) supports up to 1TB drives. It's hard to say whether one will be a better experience in regards to driver compatibility, etc.

Cool. Thanks for the explanation. I probably don't need either I guess. Looking out for a powered one..

For those of you that do these MIR's often... can I submit the rebate on Newegg with all the items at once, print copies of the form then mail each UPC/envelope individually? Or do I need to make individual rebates on Newegg for each item too?
