Yup. Verizon phones will be unlocked out of the box. I'm not sure about ATT and the other carriers but chances are they will stick with their carriers.

I understand it's unlocked and all but $300 dollars worth of gift cards is hard to pass up. Especially if it can be easily treated like cash (Walmart for example).

The catch in such deals is you have to have the contract for so many months and pay for their expensive talk/data plan. If you buy this unlocked phone and use your existing carrier and number with red pocket it will be brand new phone with cheap monthly rates.

That's true I see your point.

However, once you get your gift card you are free to do whatever you want though. You can cancel your plan the next day if you wanted.

Srsly? I can signup with Verizon and cancel without early termination fees? I do want to try Verizon, and an iPhone 8, 8+, maybe the X? But thought there would be a 2yr commitment

Nop, it is not a 2 years contract. It is installment loan. You can pay off and leave anytime you want.
