UPDATE 11/30/2017 Thanks to Koby007:

Great, thank you.
Just finished chatting with Lorex:

1. Cyberweek sale ends at 11:59pm, Sunday night, 12/3, Eastern Time.
2. If you purchased from Lorex (not sure if purchased elsewhere), you are NOT required to return the cables if they are installed already. (OP note * )
3. No restocking fee, but you pay for shipping back on returns withing 60 days.
4. Lorex will cover shipping both ways within 60 days for replacement if any of the items are defective.

...

( * - I do still prefer using bulk cable, as that means I can drill smaller holes and it makes it easier for me to pull cables through conduit - of course a lot depends on your home / building and the cable runs, those with nice accessible attics in 1 story building have the easier job of this. Also when I get to pick the cable I can ensure I am getting a good solid cable - probably not as much of an issue in the pricier kits. )

Sale Ends November 24

BLACK25 - 25% off prices, does not apply to Black Friday specials
( During the summer they had a 15% off promo code, and recently during the fall a 10% off )

In general it looks the camera only SKUs are rather pricey.
Closer inspection shows that there is a better value to buying the Black Friday special kits.

Black Friday specials - no additional promo codes applies:

Free shipping. 60 day returns.

Some great information from Dumbcanuck ( thanks! )

Spoke to a sales guy at Lorex that was really helpful...

According to him the prices will go up after this promo, slightly higher after black friday and a larger jump after that

There is a certain top cash back site that gives 8 percent from lorex Peace
NEW = New Product.

OP notes:
Coax Analog systems, looks like some good deals on the kits, I know more about IP PoE Dahua OEM cameras from Chinese vendors, so to save time I will skip doing a more detailed look at these. If you are interested in these products I recommend getting at least a 8 channel version, and hopefully one with the best cameras they have available and skip the more affordable plastic cased ones.

There's some really nice IP PoE kit deals:
To determine the value of the deal I am comparing as similar as possible Dahua OEM IP PoE cameras and NVRs from Chinese vendors. ( Dahua is the OEM )
If the price is equal or lower, then it is a good deal. I recommend the 4K kits in general, some very nice solid cameras and NVRs.

note: On page Lorex notes: "4K NVR can support up to 8 cameras" even though it has 16 channels. Looks like a mistake as this NVR is bundled w/a 22 camera kit, thus should have enough power for 16 cameras.

ID spec distance and associated area max covered calculations ( 100ppf+ ):

This is the theoretical max based on raw pixels from the horizontal resolution and the horizontal FOV. Calculations based on data provided in ads / spec sheets. Some vendors like to play games and list diagonal FOV instead of horizontal FOV as that number is bigger and not clarify that it is diagonal FOV.
Actual real world results will be decreased due to the quality of the camera ( glass vs plastic lens, compression quality, sw/firmware,... ), installation view, as well as environmental conditions ( low light, haze, fog, glare off snow, water rain,.. ).

Practical meaning: Place your cameras in such a manner that any suspect / subject you wish to potentially ID is within this ID spec distance, as well as in a placement which will give you a high likelihood of obtaining a good facial image ( mount camera 8 feet or less high ).

Please see the Lorex 4K kit $800 deal wiki for lots of information on PoE security camera kits and installing a wired PoE system.

https://slickdeals.net/f/10409612-lorex-dahua-oem-6x-4k-8mp-security-camera-system-w-8-port-poe-ip-nvr-2tb-hdd-kit-at-costco-b-m-ymmv-for-799-99

Note Lorex / FLIR appears to have switched off the IVS ( as Dahua calls them, Q-see labels as IVA ) options in the Lorex branded line, and is using motion detection options instead

FYI - Master List of Black Friday Security Camera deals:
https://slickdeals.net/f/10731663-security-camera-security-camera-system-black-friday-2017-master-list

Do you need or want quality low light cameras to go with one of these Dahua OEM PoE systems?

If so, I recommend the following Aliexpress store: Empire
This is due to the out standing reputation and service a gentleman by the name of Andy who works / runs the store has done with the members of ipcamtalk.com.
You can check that site out to check his reputation if you like. ( his handle is EmpireTecAndy - he also posts his email address there )

If he has stock he will ship DHL right away, so no crazy long 4-6 week wait. He has also reduced his prices for Black Friday.

Note - as it is challenging to ship from / to China, you can't easily return these like you can from US vendors so you have to be certain you want to buy these.
Trust me, the cameras listed below are quality international models with metal cases. (*)

Recommended for the Front door - place camera at 5-6 feet high. Nice solid case.
Dahua Starlight mini-dome wedge IPC-HDBW4231F-AS - also can record audio where legally allowed. Get 2.8mm lens if right in front of subjects, otherwise 3.6mm. Also has microSD slot.
http://urlhasbeenblocked/2A6eoP0

Dahua Starlight turret HDW4231EM-AS - a nice fixed lens camera - get 3.6mm lens ( 87°) or 6mm ( better zoom, 51° ). Can record audio also. Also has microSD slot.
http://urlhasbeenblocked/2mXKERh

Dahua Starlight varifocal turret IPC-HDW5231R-Z - killer low light camera with 4x optical zoom. Can record audio also. Also has microSD slot.
http://urlhasbeenblocked/2hXwcaj

Dahua Starlight varifocal bullet IPC-HFW5231E-Z - kill low light camera with 4x optical zoom. Same bullet style as in the 4K Lorex and Costco 4k Q-see kits.
http://urlhasbeenblocked/2jjvKjo

These cameras do not come with power adapters - so you will need a PoE switch, NVR with PoE, or a PoE power injector.

( * Be careful and avoid Chinese market cameras which are hard to update the firmware, and typically lower build quality with more plastic - if you try to update the hacked/patched with English language Chinese market cameras they will revert to P2P and Chinese language.. a real pita )

The 4K kit at 1599$ is only one with varifocal cameras? Also I'm new to this but what's the deal with turret vs bullet? I can't tell difference aside from appearance. I'm most concerned with get exterior of home coverage with ability for night time license plate recognition. Does placement next to flood lights help or hurt? Also should the floods be motion activated or always on at night time?

Hi Jvmorales,

Some of the other kits also have varifocal cameras, that was the most affordable one with all varifocal cameras.

These cameras will be great for getting license plates as you can zoom in.

Note, for night time you will have to tune the camera just for plates.

The 800$ Costco/Lorex deal or 1099$ Lorex Black Friday deal isn't varifocal then... Does that mean those kits wouldn't be ideal for night time license plate viewing? Approx 40-50ft from cam to street in my scenario. By the way you rock, Lorex service was way slower and much less helpful Wink !

Hi Jvmorales,

Thanks

40-50 ft is too far for the cameras in those kits... YOU can change out the lens in the cameras, or get another camera, or pick up one of those 4K kits which have a varifocal camera ( some of the bullets have it, do take a look I listed them in the write up )

If you want to try to change out a lens, take a look here in this thread there's an example ( I think I also have a link in the lorex 4k $800 deal )

Mat2000 thx again! Don't answer this if you already have, but what's your perspective on turret vs bullet? Intuitively the turret seems like a wider viewing angle, but interestingly they have similar viewing distance ultimately. Not sure if I've put my finger on the difference between technologies or application.

Hi Jvmorales,

I have both. I like the turrets better for locations which someone can grab the camera.

Both products are solid, metal cased, so when properly installed they are unlikely to be easily adjusted by a vandal.

The bullet case works better for putting in zoom lens - so often you see bullets which have better zoom features.

Look at the thread here for junction boxes ( PFA121 and PFA137 or PFA139 for small turret ) as well as the wall mount PFB203W ( for turrets )

Hi FrankF2218,

All the PoE systems from Lorex should be good options.

I'm currently doing some ID distance calculations for the 4K kits, and
I really like the 4K kits more because they have a much better ID distance.

Hopefully I'll have more time to take a closer look at the 2K kits after that.

Note:
The LN1080-88 kit has a "lite" version of the Dahua OEM NVR thus 1 HDD only, personally I wanted to get a beefer NVR and got one which can handle 2 HDDs as well as have more processing power.

If you can afford it I would look at some of the 4K options out there.

Stayed tune I will up date the post with more math data as I finish calculating ID distances.

I really like the 4KHDIP1644NV is there anyway to make this slicker? Black25 doesn't apply since it's an exclusive deal.

Hi HookedonHD,

I have not found a way, you can watch and take a chance and see if anything new happens tomorrow.

May your CC gives you cash back?

If anyone finds a way to make it even better please post it.

Hi Frank,

Completely understand. The most important thing is camera placement and the wiring job, that way you can always easily upgrade it in 5+ years. ( I plan to keep mine going until they die.. )
