MagicJack "Jacked Up" their prices so I ported my number to Google Voice, got an Obi200 and have been happy camper since. The call quality with Obi200+GV is much better than MagicJack.

How did you port from MJ?
Google voice doesn't recognize them as available for porting :?

Here is how I did it using an intermediary:

1. Go to a major carrier and buy a cheap prepaid phone. (I used T-Mobile prepaid SIM since I had an unlocked phone).
2. Pay the carrier their minimum prepaid amount and they will activate your line with a temp number (I spent $10 for SIM plus $13 for minimum prepaid amount)
3. Tell the rep that you want to port a current number from Magic Jack and use the following information. This is VERY important.
-Magic Jack phone number
-Your name
-Account number from Magic Jack website
-Pin is the password you use to log into the Magic Jack website (make sure you make this 6 digit numbers only)
-Your address that is setup on Magic Jack. Include it just as it shows on the Magic Jack website. This includes the zip. It needs to be exactly the way in the site. For example 95823-7487
4. As the rep submits this request, log into the Magic Jack website and go to the "Transfer" option on the options.
5. Check this section for a number Port Out request and it should show you a status immediately on the page. If it says "Accepted" it means you are good to go and the port will happen by the due date listed on the page. If there are issues, it will clearly say the error such as Invalid Account number, ZIP code mismatch etc. You will also get a notification email from Magic Jack asking you to call them if you are having an issue with their service. This is their last attempt to retain you as a customer.
6. Once the port is complete, check Google voice site for the number you want to transfer over and it will show your number as valid.
7. Put in a request with Google, they will call you to verify that is your number. Make sure you use your phone number as the account number and the pin you created when setting up your T-Mobile line.
8. Pay Google $20 and your port from wireless carrier to Google Voice will start and complete exactly to the minute after 24 hours of submission if all your information is correct.

Message me if you need more details or clarification.

Does faxing work through a Google Voice number? Or is that just with some SIP accounts? Faxing is very fussy and will only tolerate some codecs and with a high quality connection. Does anybody have experience receiving faxes over a Google Voice number?

I answered my own question by looking at the questions on Amazon. Seems like people have generally had success but it is not perfect. Obihai itself includes a fax to email service as part of a premium subscription.

I bought the Obi200 in preparation for the imminent demise of GV service for my Obi110. I haven't opened the 200 yet, since my Obi110 is still working fine with GV. I'm starting to wonder about whether the dire warnings are going to pan out. Can anyone with an Obi110 that stopped working two weeks ago confirm that theirs is still not working?

Yes, mine still does not work. I did not try DNS change or anything like that.
