Wife became a hobby photographer. She uses web based touch up programs. Can anyone tell me if this is any good for beginners; she's a bit of a computer dummy.

Shows as 59.99 for me, which is the same deal at several other places (B+H, Amazon)

Never mind, entered code wrong... still works!

Lightroom is going to be much more photography oriented. I would recommend that.

I would say if she wants to go from beginner to semi-pro it's worth it as a stepping stone to full Photoshop, Photoshop in general looks more technical than it actually is. For a beginner most tasks have really good video tutorials on YouTube that teach you practically everything you want to learn. Photoshop's editing and corrective tools are the most powerful and produce stunning results if you learn the tools, it's a little intimidating compared to the more broad stroke web editors.

The official Adobe Classroom in a book series is really good at helping you transition from beginner to mid-level user if you take the time to explore on your own using the guides. I think they include web content and project files to follow with when you buy the book new.

There's also Adobe Lightroom that you might want to look into as well.

I have used PSE for years now all the way back to PSE 3. I think it is excellent. There is a bit of learning curve, but there are video tutorials galore to help her. I have also used its big brother, Photoshop. In my opinion, Photoshop is more for the professional photographer. PSE will do all the editing I want and also allow me to do digital scrapbooking, etc. This new edition has a neat feature where it will 'almost' automatically extract a person or an image from a photo. It also has features to 'open' closed eyes and to turn a serious look into an authentic looking smile. It is ten more dollars than this at Adobe with an option to get the DVD rather than just a download. That was posted a few days ago in SD. I also have Lightroom. I really like it for organization and some batch edits, but I find PSE to be much more fun for my personal photography needs. You can get a free 30 day trial download of this to check it out. I don't know how long this deal is good; I believe the price at Adobe is good for another week. Not sure. I hope she finds what she enjoys. It is nice of you to be looking out for her.
