Generally, NiCADs have more recharge cycles, do not age as quickly as Li-ion, is cheaper, and will last longer if not taken care of. My experience matches the above and the wiki link below. Maybe do some of your own research.

Sort of. NiCADs still have a use case as they tolerate deep discharge much better than li-ion. I don't use my cordless drill often, so I intentionally buy NiCADs because I know NiCADs can be left alone longer and still reliably charge. My other tools are corded and are unfortunately, used even less often, but just often enough to justify owning them.

For this price id go with a lithium Ryobi bundle. They're always on sale this time of year and better for the home user due to tool selection.

My experience with nicd on a 5yr old ryobi set with light usage is crap. At this point, takes hours to charge for less than 5 mins of run time.

Shesh buy the batteries get the tools free, makes me wish I hadn't just bought an aftermarket to replace the dead one from my 4 tool set... Though these are the baby batteries, I got essentially an XRP knockoff for 20 something bucks.

5 years is maybe a little short of a life, but it's not shocking to hear batteries wearing out at that point. One of the two in my Dewalt kit died and the other isnt great, but they're like 8 years old.

Get something with lithium batteries. This like buying a Blackberry phone.

Agreed, my Craftsman NIcad battery stopped holding a decent charge within a year. The 7 year old Lithium batteries for that craftsman set is still going strong. There's a reason Lithium batteries are now the new standard for battery technology. They'll go longer in between charges, hold more capacity, and are more reliable.
