From my research and experience...

Play:5 + Echo Dot = Epic
Play:1 + Echo Skill = Great <-- experience talking
Play One + Time = Eventual Goodness.

Seems the Alexa instance is pretty handicapped on the One right now. I'm aiming for a 5 to complement my Play:1's.

Thanks! Based on my research, I think i'll get the Play:1 + Dot.

Doesn't support all the Alexa skills available on the Echo or Echo Dot. If you're using the One only for music then it should work fine, but I agree it's handicapped as far as "smart speakers" go

Do yourself a favor and buy two play ones and make a stereo pair instead, way better bang for your buck. Especially with play ones going for 150 on sale at Best Buy right now

I'm giving it some serious thought but I need to slow my roll little bit

Just throwing this out there... I have an original Play 1 and Heos 5. I think Sonos is probably overrated and Heos underrated. My Heos 5 is nice and I like the sound a lot. I wish the API was better on either. I would love to have either of these brand speakers have an API where you could interrupt what they are doing, play an alert, and keep doing what they were originally doing. Just like a dang Android phone plugged in to a car's AUX port playing music. Neither seems to really support that but I might be wrong.

Not sure why you would use this as a smart speaker?
