you probably dont't even need an i3, given what you said what their uses were. i5 is not OLD. its power depends on the number that comes after it(bigger, usually better). You don't really need to look for ssd specifically, I would suggest installing ssd yourself to give yourself more options. FOR REFERENCE:
This should be more than enough for surfing and movies ( even without SSD). That is only $200, for ref only.
Throw in an 500gb ssd for 150.
If you dont know how to install/copy a drive over to SSD, you can look it up. I mean, should be worth the hassle.

Should only cost you less than 400 if you do it right.
