Lowest I have seen this tablet.

Not sure if I myself want to pull the trigger yet with the black friday weekend coming up.

BTW, this tablet did finally get a Nougat update a couple months back.

Edit: now $219

Any comments on the quality of this tab, and if it's worth the price?

Do you mind linking me to where you saw that? I just looked through their black friday ad on the website and could only find the Mediapad M3 Lite version.

Edit: I was able to find it, https://www.theblackfriday.com/ne...ml?page=10 for anyone also wanting to see it.

I searched on reddit. Seems like people's biggest complaint is the UI, but less so with the nougat updated. Don't see too many other complaints

I have a Huawei phone myself, I never really had an issue with the UI at all. And if it's really a problem, you can simply install a different launcher instead. I used the stock EMUI for about 9 months, but I decided to install Google Launcher just because I wanted a different change. I had no issues with it at all, despite it being "Chinese-manufactured", I've only had good experiences with Huawei products.

Why would you get this over a Tab S2?

This tablet is a year newer than the Samsung S 2 and has a lot more battery life. Not to mention the screen is a higher resolution. The speakers are outstanding for a tablet and overall an extremely fast experience. I did end up installing nova launcher and have never had an issue with UI. You can root it to get 5 GHz AC however the US very in stock is only 2.4 GHz.

I only recently became aware of this tablet and it looks pretty impressive. I'd like to know more about how the Hisilicon Kirin 950 / Mali-T880 chipset compares to better-known Qualcomm SoCs, and whether it's appropriate for driving that high-res 2560x1600 screen, especially in games. Trying to decide if it's worth upgrading the LG G Pad X 8.0 v520 32GB which I got for about $90 used.

I looked at this tablet, but didn't buy it because:
1. Strange UI
2. No 5Ghz wifi

The second one is a killer for me, as some places only have 5Ghz (like my work).

I ended up buying the Lenovo Tab 4 Plus 8" off ebay. They don't sell the 64GB version in the US, but you can buy one from Korea on ebay.

5Ghz wifi is an easy fix on XDA

He was probably referencing the 64GB version, not the 16GB U.S. version. Just a guess. Seems to run a little over $300 on ebay, aka ~$100 more than this.

The T-Mobile LG G Pad X 8.0 16GB (v521) is really similar to the Lenovo Tab 4 8 Plus 16GB. Same form factor, and screen resolution, ram allotment, etc. The Lenovo has a slightly newer SoC (Qualcomm 625 vs 617) and may support SD card adoptable storage out of the box. I believe you need to install LineageOS on the T-Mobile LG G Pad X 8.0 to get adoptable storage. The AT&T LG G Pad X 8.0 (v520) is 32GB; although there's no official LineageOS ROM for it, I find that the 32GB of internal storage is adequate. I only mention this because they regularly go for new & like-new on eBay for ~$120, and in really good used condition for $90-100. If you're not giving it as a gift, just looking for a tablet for your own personal use, it's worth considering.
