Avoid broadcom SOC. They are not open source friendly and will be a security nightmare in the future because they are practically unpatchable.

Show support for silicon vendors who are open source friendly and are supported by lede / ddwrt like qualcomm ipq806x platform (for example, netgear r7800, r7500v2), mediatek 760X, marvell 88F (linksys wrt series). Platforms supported by open source firmware Lede gets the benefit of timely security patches rollout and rich features which no consumer grade router vendor can hope to match.

Broadcom platform offloads lots of data handling that traditionally reside on linux kernel space to their chip, which will surely have unpatchable security holes in the future. In this case, even firmware / driver update will not be able to fully mitigate issues.

Looks like a very good deal. Does anyone have any experience with this particular model as well as purchasing second-hand items like this via Amazon warehouse? Should I be worried about quality, warranty, support?

My warehouse experiences have been hit or miss. My air purifier only had a small piece broken which didn't affect how it works. My laser printer while not broken had ink everywhere internally. (Looked fine from the outside.) It works as well, but it took a long time to clean up the mess. None of the items I've ordered have been DOA.
