Wow, I didn't know B&N still sold reader tablets. I thought Amazon put them out of business. Literally the first time I've seen a deal on their tablets in years. But maybe that's because I never really looked for them.

I set a deal alert for this and am going to buy it. Thanks OP!

Is it better than a Kindle? I have no idea. Am I heavily invested in the B&N ecosystem? No. I just happen to have $150 and some change on a B&N GC and still haven't found anything to spend it on in almost 2 years laugh out loud

I picked up the Nook Simple Touch (touchscreen model with built-in light) a couple of years ago when they were being clearanced for $30 and it's been fine. It's not great: the screen isn't capacitive, so literally anything will change the page or cause it to go crazy, and despite having a case on it, I apparently got some sort of nick in the screen (invisible during daylight, so I'm not sure what the deal is), but it causes a "bright spot" when the light is on. But hey, it was $30 for an ereader with light and expandable storage, and I could sideload my Amazon books easily enough.

I'll give this one a shot. $100 for what you get (namely the transitioning warm light) is probably pretty good. I am surprised they bothered to come out with another one, though, and have no doubt that it will be a failure. Not because it's bad, necessarily, but the number of folks in the B&N ecosystem over Amazon has got to be pretty small. When B&N goes to dump these after a lackluster holiday season, I'll pick up a couple more to replace the Simple Touches I bought family a couple of years ago.

If BN and Newegg merged years ago, it could have competed better against Amazon when the Kindle was introduced. How to take down a juggernaut that owns washpo is an interesting question.

Amazon has taken over but IMO nook was one of the best having buttons that only are on the voyager. It's too bad because I think the lack of competition has really stalled any innovation on ereaders

It's hard to justify buying a Nook for $100...

The NOOK GlowLight 3 only has 1 GB of storage space for side-loaded content and 5.5G B for NOOK Store content. Can someone more familiar with ereaders tell me if the Kindle Paperwhite has a similar distinction for storage capacity between side-loaded content and Amazon store content? The Paperwhite's storage is 4GB but I'm not seeing any specifics on the Amazon store page. The 1GB on the NOOK seems very stingy. I'm looking to buy my first ereader.
