It's an HP service, like Amazon Dash buttons, which alerts HP when you're low on ink and they can send refills. For convenience, but at higher cost.

It is a monthly subscription for printing. You don't pay for the ink, just the number of pages you print. HP will send you replacement cartridges as you get low. There are several tiers of the plan, one of which is 15 pages/month for free.

Means your printer tells hp when you need more. Basically, your printer spys in you.

Note that if you ever move from the free plan to paid, you can't downgrade later. Also, canceling the plan will also lock your cartridges from being used even if they have ink in them.

I have a instant ink printer and it is extremely convenient. $5 a month for 100 pages and never worry about running out. If you don't use all 100 they roll over.

There is a promo code(3FREEINK) 3 free months of instant ink for new customers good until 12/31/17. You can also get a unique referral code from a friend for an additional 3 months free and referrer gets 1 month. With the free codes you can choose any tier for the free months but you need to enter on initial sign up.

Can they spy on what you scan? I mainly want to get the $19.99 model for the scanner, as I dont really print that much.

Maybe, who knows at this point. I wouldn't be surprised, but I'm guessing no...

Instant ink sounds neat. I rarely print per month, but I'd still like to be able to print without overpaying if I ever need to do a ton. Is this a good option for me?

I really dislike the idea that my printer can be a paperweight if I cancel my plan.
