Seems a decent start for a pfsense or small NAS. processor is relatively new and supports AES-NI.

anyone know how many SATA ports? curious if I'd be able to hook up 1x SSD and 2x spinner HDD.

From what I found, it only has 2 onboard. Though it does have a pcie 16x and a mini pcie slot so you could get more with an expansion card.
