This is not the HDHomeRun Connect Duo, the new edition. This is the HDHomeRun Connect, which is now the "Legacy Model" (https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-connect/) [silicondust.com]. It does have dual tuners, and I'm not sure what's new in the newer model, but the title of the post mentions Duo, which is the new edition.

How much worse is this compared to the TiVo roamio that is currently available for $300? I do realize the TiVo has a hard drive built in...

Gen 5 US models use the new MaxLinear MxL692 tuner-demod. Gen 4 US models use a Panasonic demod.

In my own early testing, gen 5 is a bit better at receiving signals right at the edge and about the same at more typical numbers. MaxLinear just released the chip a couple weeks ago, so there will of course be further refinements with more widespread use. We started using their products with HDHomeRun PRIME and have a great working relationship with their engineering team.

The signal strength is the same since all multi-tuner devices use a powered splitter to get the same signal out to each tuner that is received.

Gen 5 supports the same libhdhomerun (and hdhomerun_config command line) control as earlier models and should be compatible with (most) existing implementations. Some programs that are designed to recognize specific models instead of looking at the capabilities of the device (e.g. EyeTV) may need updates.

Different things entirely. This is just a TV tuner on your home network. Free HDView apps on Google/Apple stores and for Windows to stream the channel to the viewing app. You can record, but it is an extra cost program installed on a Windows PC, or some NAS devices and the nVidia Shield.

If you want plug in and watch/DVR, go with the Tivo. I have both, we watch most TV on the Tivo.

The equivalent for this on the Tivo is to add a Tivo Stream. I got mine on eBay. No extra fees for the Tivo Stream.
