Anyone know if these are as absurdly loud at the PC compressor usually around this price at Lowes?

Unless you buy a half-speed compressor (runs at 1750 rpm rather than 3500 for example), it will be loud.

Have this compressor. It is a little loud, but have no complaints otherwise. It is an oiled compressor. Just a helpful tidbit for anyone considering. Great for longevity.

I was in walmart yesterday and saw some Briggs and Stratton 8 gallon ones for something like $70~80?

In my experience, car sprayers need really consistent CFM/capacity to provide great results

you have to put a regulator to control the pressure.

I was going to get the OP one, but 8 gallon is very tempting . . .

I am not able to get the physical size of both units (garage size limitation), can anyone post the sizes (if you have one) . . . . . thank you.

also, if you had to chose one over the other, which one would you pick and why?

For use with an impact gun for working on a car you want the highest capacity you can reasonably afford/accommodate or you'll hear the compressor run constantly and get bogged down waiting for it to build up pressure again.

I've heard the same for painting. I think the threshold is about 5-6 gallons, anything below that ive heard described as aggrivating.

I think either one would work for a nailer (don't quote me).
