Personal choice. Here are some benefits

1. This will always be up to date.

2. Install it on up to 5 devices. Phone, tablet, Mac, Windows.

3. Includes one year of cloud storage. $5.50 a month for 1tb is a good deal even without the software access.

Can someone clarify why this is better than purchasing a regular one that can last till the next version comes out?

I bought the 2016 version and using it on all my computers and wait till the next version comes out. I still dont see what the benefit of buying this subscription model is? Other than the latest updates...

If you can find it for $64.99 next year, yes. You'll have to renew at whatever cost if you want to continue using the software and One Drive. I'm in the Apple ecosystem and pay $2.99/month for only 200 gigabytes of cloud storage. I do not get access to the MS Office suite, but I also don't need it. If I was primarily a Windows user who wanted cloud backup, this would be a no brainer.

I'm macOS/iOS user and use this for both Office suite (well, you need it sometime, as well as 1TB storage per user (i.e. 5 TB for 64.99! + Office apps), which is great deal. Oh, and you can use Arq to do backup of your system on both mac and windows. And don't forget about 60 minutes of skype time, which is useful sometimes around holidays Smilie

Great price, too bad adds about $5 in tax. But still, for my household (where 2 of us use Macs, 2 on PCs, and all of us on iPhones) this has been really awesome over the past year. If just for the cloud backup for each user, but the always up to date Office apps on PC/Mac/iPhone/iPad make it well worth it.

I hear ya. For cloud, I get it, its recommended but I think for MS Office its a waste of money IMO. There must be cheaper options for cloud service too. no?

So you can't buy three of these and just extend your subscription three years out?
