Gonna be the same thing. It's always the same every year. Sign up of the 3 year, then do it again in another 3 years.

if memory serves me, they have these flash sales (lasting 1 hour at a time) at different times over BF and CM. I can't remember what the maximum discount was previous years. I want to say 90% off during their 1am flash sale.

FYI. I've hosted with them on this same plan and it's a very good service/speed. Way better than godaddys hosting plan.

but you can't renew it right? won't you have to move the site to a different host and then come back to take advantage of the 3 year offer?

thanks, i googled a bit too and found this: http://www.blackerfriday.com/hostgator/

looks like 80% is the most they offer, which is great! I'm looking into a basic wordpress blog. how do you deal with the hosting? do you just switch hosts every 3 years to get in on the new-sign up deals such as these?

No. You wouldn't be doing a renew. You would be getting a new/additional account and cancel the first one before it renews. I do this same thing every 3 years without issue.

ah ok, and then you just map your domain over? sorry, very new at this, and have mostly found guides on how to migrate sites from one host to another and not so much on keeping the same host but registering a new account.

Hostgator migrates your site for you for free. They login and transfer everything.
