I've had this reel before. Feels pretty cheap in hand. I returned mine within 3 days because it stopped reeling properly. When it did work it was pretty dang fast. Didn't get a single fish on it though. When it broke switched to trusty old Abu Garcia black max and landed 20+/- lmb in the 1-3lb class.

These reel are "you get what you pay for" nice entry level. There are many much better reels in the sub $100 range.

Any suggestions on a good ultralight rod/reel combo? Mainly used for seasonal stocked trout fishing and local ponds. Needs to be strong enough to deal with kids accidentally catching turtles, catfish and bass but with the nice feel of the smaller rods.

I have 5 kastking reels that I've had for over a year now and they have performed flawlessly. Way better than any 100+ dollar reels I've owned. And excellent customer service.

It's a good deal if you're looking for 'once-in-a-year-fishing-with-dad-drinking-beer-not-caring-about-fish' reel.

A lot of fishing snobs in here. Kastking isn't the best by any means but they aren't exactly junk or flimsy. Most of their products are worth their price tag. Lots of competitive fishers use them perfectly fine. Are they much better than expensive Shimano or Daiwa? No. They are good for most people who fish for fun.
